Vipre Not In Tray

We've had numerous clients where the SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe seem to be running just fine, but the Vipre icon is not in the tray. Yet is you run SBAMgui.exe Vipre opens and everything appears to be fine. I was just curious if this was a known issue/if it would be fixed in the next version. Or, if there is anything that can be done to resolve the issue. Thanks.

Luke,

Thank you for the post, this is not a know issue in the currently released software. Console 7.0.3.12 and agent 7.0.5725.

We would need to see logs from a machine this is happening on to determine what might be causing it. Could be conflicting with another tray app, it might just be a timing issue when windows starts up.

You may be able to narrow it down my running msconfig and disabling items that do not need to run at startup.

Please open a case with support if you need any further assistance.

Luke,

Thank you for the post we would need a full set of agent diagnostics.

When that done post back the case number and i'll go look for the logs.

John the case number is as follows: #145893

I've realized that I believe we are actually experiencing two separate issues. I'll copy what I sent as notes within the case below:

First note: We've had numerous agents where the SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe seem to be running just fine, but the Vipre icon is not in the tray. Yet if you run sbamui.exe Vipre opens and everything appears to be fine. This makes it rather difficult to easily ensure that Vipre is running, so any potential fix would be appreciated. I'll run the diagnostics so that you are sent the logs shortly after I submit this ticket.

Second note: Ok, there may actually be two separate issues here. We are currently in the process of moving our Vipre clients over to a new server following the instructions on your forums here: http://support.threattracksecurity.com/support/discussions/topics/1000059700. It seems that on computers that are still on the old server, not the new one, are no longer showing the Scan tab, and also are not in the Tray of the computer either.

The other issue is that in the past we have had computer where Vipre is running perfectly fine besides not being shown in the Tray. All services are running, but the icon is not in the Tray which makes it difficult to easily ensure it is running correctly.

I sent a log file from a computer where Vipre is currently now in the Tray, however that one is the first issue I listed above--where it appears to be on our old server still and is not in the Tray and is not displaying the Scan tab.

Luke Papenfuss

Ok, ignore the whole message about our server switch. That all makes sense now and why it didn't work on some computers makes sense as well. We got all that figured out. I do not, however, have any idea about my original question of why sometimes Vipre is not showing up in the Tray.

I don't think I have any computers with that issue at the moment, so I may just open a new ticket when one pops up and submit logs for it when that time comes.

this is happening to me two i just installed this two days ago and even bought a year subscription so it should be on the latest servers so whats up with the program not being in the system tray?? i have vipre opened and still nothing in the system tray? as you can see.

Erik Vlach

Has this been resolved? I am on Server 2008 R2 and although SBAMTray and sbamui run or show as running in the task manager, I do not see the vipre icon in the system tray. It is not listed in the Customize option (show/hide) of the tray. v10.1.7359

Richard Biart

Hi, I'm running into the same issue, please find attached images for reference.

Any updates on this?

morgan

I solved the issue in on my taskbar now. Well has been for a while but at the time it wasn't I updated it and it showed up. And I'm not talking about the hidden icons it next to the time on the taskbar. Somebody told me if its not visible you could have a virus that's disabling the vipre icon. I don't but that could be a reason.

Richard Biart

@morgan, thanks for the update. Might i ask, if you didn't have a virus, how did you resolve the problem? Thanks Richard

Sbamtray Application Has Stopped Working

@morgan, sorry let me refrace that question. So an updated client resolved the problem? What version of client was that? Thanks Richard
